About BlueTree Website Design Ltd

BlueTree is a family-run website design business based in Portishead, North Somerset, just outside Bristol. We've been designing and building websites since the late 90s.

We work on projects large and small, specialising in affordable websites for small businesses and sole traders, along with larger projects involving custom website design and development.

We aim to grow our business by developing and providing packages and services that help you grow your business. We aim to do this using policies you can read on this page.

Environmental Policy

We all have a stake in the quality of our local environment, the world around us, and our Planet Earth as a whole.  We take this seriously and look continually for ways to reduce our carbon footprint. Examples:

  • We work from home, which minimises travelling
  • We minimise waste using email, video calls, phone and The Cloud for communication and collaboration
  • We're moving away from HSBC, a bank that sustains fossil fuel consumption production, to Starling, which has good green credentials
  • We recycle everything we can
  • We only buy refurbished tech: phones, computers, even our kids tech
  • Our own, and our clients’, web sites are, or were, hosted on carbon-neutral servers (to be honest, we're in a bit of a pickle here because Memset, which was the first green ISP in the UK, has been acquired by Iomart, a company doing its best with greenwashing waffle; we're gradually moving all our sites back to a greener host - at some cost to us, none to our clients)

Fair Pricing Policy

We build websites using established software engineering methodologies called "Rapid Application Development (RAD)" and "Component-Based Development (CBD)"  We build every website using components from a library we have compiled over many years. This keeps costs down and quality up because a) we don't have to write and test so much code, and b) each component has been tested already in many different scenarios.

  • We will estimate the cost of building your website and quote a time-limited fixed price
  • We will calculate the build price based solely on the time it takes to design your website, assemble our components into your new website design, test and deploy them
  • Should we build a new component solely for you, we will charge for the time it takes, again quoting a fixed price
  • Should we build you a new component that we think will be useful to others, we will not charge you for the development, just for its integration with your site
  • We will raise (or lower ;-) our prices, from time to time, in line with the UK Consumer Price Index

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Policy

We love new clients, they're so interesting and it's always fascinating to learn about a new product or sector. We'll work, and have worked, on the same terms and with the same enthusiasm, with all our clients, new and old, now and in future.

Continuous Improvement Policy

We always strive to get better at what we do. This applies especially to our CMS, and to our other products and services, including this website. Should you have an idea for improvement you'd like to share with us, please use the form on our contact page.

Complaints Policy

We will always treat complaints seriously.

It's best to make a complaint in writing, If you wish to complain, please complete the form on our contact page.

On receiving a complaint we will first try to speak with you to confirm the issue, then we will try to put things right and tell you when this might happen. Should we be unable to speak with you, we will do our best to correct the situation anyway.

Should you still be unhappy when we have exhausted our capability or the target time we've set, we'll ask what you'd like to do.

  1. If we have not yet published your new website, or published it within the last month, we will stop further work and refund the money you've paid, less what we have spent with third parties on your behalf.
  2. If your BlueTree website has been published for more than three months you may choose to leave it online until you have found a replacement or we will replace it with a blank page so visitors don't see a "page not found" error. In either case you may cancel your monthly support payments and your solution will remain online for six months, after which it will be removed from the internet.
